With petals peeking from the ground
as if standing on tiny toes,
the snow trillium reaches upward
embracing winter's cold
while warming in a mellow sun.
The first flower of the season,
the hope and promise of regeneration
of a cold and sullen earth
emptied by snow and windswept chill,
now shivering with life's new vibrations.
